General Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. It includes what we are doing in actions and speech, but also our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, reasoning processes, and memories and even the biological activities that keep our bodies functioning.
The most amazing part of our body is our brain and its component neural system. Neural and chemical processes are important to our understanding of the relationship between the brain and behavior. The biological approach assumes that the mind is ultimately a product of the brain, with a physical basis. This assumption is often referred to as materialism. At the same time, no one can explain how mind and brain are connected, despite the progress made in understanding more basic function. The nervous system consist of billion of individual cells called neurons. A neurons receive signals from other neurons through its branching dendrites and all body, and transmit an electrical impulse down its axon. When these signals reach the end of the axon, they stimulate the release of chemical messenger called neurotransmitter. The drugs of special interest in studying consciousness, however, are those that interact with the central nervous system to alter a person’s mood, perception, mode of thinking, and behavior – the psychoactive drugs. All psychoactive drugs alter consciousness, but different forms of the drugs affect the body in different ways. I was enlighten that the hereditary behavior of parents to child is not really mean for me. If our parents doing something wrong or having bad influences the way they discipline in front of us, instead of questioning about the their lifestyle we can divert our emotions into things that we can help to cope and we can perceive those problem with them.
Behaviorist approach is basic to our understanding of human behavior. Its about what we have learned and how to response in any obstacle we experience example how to memorize information to help us pass an exam. The law effect is a principle of learning developed by Edwin Thorndike, stating that any response which leads to a satisfying outcome for the organism is likely to be repeated, and any response which leads o an unpleasant outcome is not likely to be repeated.
Imagine our life without memory. There would be no savoring remembrances of joyful moments, no guilt or misery over painful recollections. Memory is any indication that learning has persisted over time. Memory is regarded as having three separate stages – sensory memory, short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory. Each stage has distinctive characteristics, with transfer between stages dependent on attention, rehearsal and coding.
Motivation is a need or desire that serves to energize behavior and to direct it toward a goal. As a student, I entered here in UCC to enhance my knowledge and to fulfill my dreams. Consider motivation in these situation. Freud’s theory of personality accounts for behavior in terms of dynamic relationships of the id, ego and superego.
